It is a computerized system that, through a mobile application, allows large, medium and small food producers to efficiently hire transportation services with independent transporters, eliminating close to 30% of the value of intermediation in the food production chain. This solution increases the profitability of farmers and transporters, which translates into better products for retailers and greater benefits for the end consumer.

Campo Coat

It consists of a coating substance to extend the product life of fruits and vegetables in the post-harvest, storage and distribution stages. This coating creates a protective layer that inhibits water loss and allows gas exchange between the product and its environment. In addition, it reduces weight loss, provides gloss without an artificial appearance, preserves the natural color and slows the ripening process of the fruit or vegetable.

This project offers farmers the use of low-cost innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and sensors to reduce the use and dependence on agrochemicals, detect crop diseases, improve agricultural productivity and increase their resilience to the negative effects of climate change.

Guatemala

The team uses organic waste from restaurants and homes to feed a specific breed of cockroaches, which are then used as protein powder for the manufacturing of balanced feed for animal and human consumption. They seek to impact responsible animal protein production by recovering organic waste and using it as food for insect growth.

Innovative solutions
to reduce food loss and waste in Mexico.

In Mexico, 20.4 million tons of food are lost and wasted anually. This represents 34% of all food produced. Its economic cost is estimated at 491 billion Mexican pesos (about 26 billion dollars), or the equivalent of 2.5% of the country's GDP. To find solutions to this problem, we launched the #SinDesperdicioMéxico Contest, which provided non-refundable financing and customized incubation programs for innovative, viable and impactful solutions.

Congratulations to the Contest Winners, SaveFruit and Mi Fruta, Mi Pueblo!
We thank all the finalists and participants for the excellent
work they did to present innovative solutions.
SaveFruit

The startup offers post-harvest technologies that can be used to extend the shelf life of the fruits after they are harvested, providing extra protection against fungal and bacterial diseases that may appear on the fruit. The product acts in a natural and specific way, so it is not toxic to humans or the environment and allows all participants within the fruit production chain to benefit; including storage, transportation, distribution, commercialization, and domestic consumption.

Mi Fruta, Mi Pueblo

The proposal consists of a network of community learning circles to transform seasonal fruits into innovative by-products, visualizing the possibility of commercialization and the formation of producer cooperatives. They currently work in Zapotec communities in the state of Oaxaca with excess citrus, preventing the surplus from being wasted and thus promoting the prevention of food loss and waste in populations with food shortages and extreme poverty.

Preemar

The startup developed a real-time water quality monitoring system that helps fish-farmers to maintain a disease-free environment and prevent production losses. The farmers can access this information at any time and remotely through a mobile application and web platform. Also, when detecting a variation in any of the parameters, the system sends the farmer a preventive alert so that he can take the necessary actions.

Innovative solutions
to reduce food loss in the
horticultural production chain in Argentina

In Argentina, 16 million tons of food are lost and wasted every year, of which 14.5 million tons correspond to food loss (production, storage, transport and processing stages) and 1.5 million tons to food waste (marketing and consumption). The food chain with the highest food loss and waste are vegetables: 42.1%! To provide solutions to this problem, we launched the #SinDesperdicioHortícola Contest, which provided non-refundable financing and personalized mentoring for innovative, viable and impactful solutions.

Congratulations to the Contest winners, Silopapa and Deep Agro.
We thank all the finalists and participants for the excellent
work they did to find innovative solutions.
SiloPapa

SiloPapa consists of a bulk tuber bagging system with a storage capacity of up to 190 tons in 40 linear meters in a silo-bag type silo. This system, intended for producers in the horticultural sector, prevents post-harvest losses, which can have a 40% impact on yields, since many producers leave the tubers under the ground to preserve them, generating multiple losses, and can store the raw material for up to 6 months by simply making storage more technical. SiloPapa proposes storage at the planting site, reducing costs, harvesting the tubers at the right time without depending on transportation and extending the winter period.

Silopapa
DeepAgro

DeepAgro provides a system that recognizes weed through videos for intelligent herbicide application. They developed a recognition software that uses Artificial Intelligence techniques (Deep Learning) and a device that can be used in any spray equipment by opening and closing the nozzles in real time, saving costs (saving water and chemical product) and protecting the environment. The greatest advantages can be obtained in potato, sweet potato, onion and lettuce crops. On the other hand, this solution attacks the common problems derived from the application of agrochemicals on the whole lot and highlights the benefits of applying chemicals only on the weeds.
